Project Details
Oakline Apartment is a full renovation of a compact home where the kitchen, dining space, and living room were competing for the same square footage. The client needed better storage, a more usable kitchen, and a home that could host friends without feeling crowded.
What needed solving
The original layout created pinch points around the kitchen and offered very little worktop or pantry space. The visual language also changed from room to room, which made the apartment feel smaller and less considered than it was.
Design approach
We reorganised the shared spaces around a long island and used oak joinery as a common thread through the apartment. The same material family appears in the kitchen, living storage, and transition spaces, while stone surfaces bring durability to the busiest areas.
Deep drawers replace awkward lower cabinets for cookware and pantry storage.
Island seating allows cooking and conversation to happen in the same place.
Integrated storage reduces clutter in the living and dining zones.
“The goal was a home that feels good on a normal weekday, not only when everything is perfectly tidy.”
Area | Solution |
|---|---|
Kitchen | Long island, durable stone top, and full-height storage. |
Living space | Built-in joinery to keep everyday clutter out of view. |
Lighting | Task lighting for cooking plus softer evening layers. |
The result is a more connected apartment with practical storage and a warm, consistent atmosphere throughout.
